Many of the pharmaceutical preparations currently on the market are derived from plants. Herbal remedies used in ancient times have led to several modern discoveries.
For example, aspirin, or acetylsalicylic acid, is a mild, non-narcotic analgesic derived from the bark of the willow tree. The use of willow bark as a herbal remedy dates back to both Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine (around 400 B.C.), and Chinese healers (500 B.C.). Today, aspirin has multiple recognized uses including the prevention or treatment of heart disease, strokes, colorectal cancer, and several other conditions.
The mission of
University Health Industries is to develop and patent herbal formulations which, like willow bark, have the proven ability to improve the quality of our lives.
